Last season saw Chelsea lift the League Cup and whilst many of the teams taking part at this stage of the competition won’t get anywhere near Wembley, a few cup fairy tales may be written.
The nature of the draw means that quite a few local derbies will be played out and with bigger teams facing off against their smaller neighbours there is plenty of scope for a few shocks and goals along the way. Read on for our League Cup BTTS tips.
Tuesday 11th August 2015
- Accrington Stanley v Hull City (4/5 with Betfred) – With Hull looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League they may well field a weakened side and that will give Accrington hope ahead of their meeting at the Crown Ground. Josh Windass, son of Hull hero Dean, plays for Stanley and he scored six goals last term.
- Brentford v Oxford United (4/5 with BetVictor) – Last season Brentford took part in a first round game which saw 12 goals scored before the Bees beat Dagenham and Redbridge on penalties. This game has the potential to be another goalfest with Brentford scoring plenty but also conceding a lot as well.
- Charlton v Dagenham and Redbridge (11/12 with BetVictor) – Dagenham finished last season on a decent run of form and we’re backing them to cause Charlton a few problems at the Valley. The Addicks weren’t exactly impressive towards the back end of last year and they’ve been tipped to struggle and you can back BTTS at a very tempting price here.
- Barnsley v Scunthorpe United (8/13 with Bet365) – Two well matched teams who have both bought well in the summer go head to head at Glanford Park on Tuesday evening and we think this one has goals in it. Watch out for Scunny striker Kevin van Veen who plundered 36 goals in 49 games in the Dutch second tier before joining the Iron.
- Wigan Athletic v Bury (8/11 with Betfred) – Wigan’s League Cup campaign gets underway with a North West derby and Bury will be hoping to shock recently relegated Athletic. The two sides last met back in 2001 and both teams scored on that occasion with Bury fans hoping the momentum from their promotion last term will help them cause an upset.
- Millwall v Barnet (3/4 with Betfred) – We’re tipping goals in another London derby as Brentford and Millwall go head to head. Millwall were awful at the back last season in the Championship and if that continues a resurgent Barnet may well get plenty of opportunities as they look to make an instant impression after securing promotion from the Conference.

- Doncaster Rovers v Leeds United (8/11 with Coral) – This will be the third time in five seasons these two clubs have met in the League Cup with Leeds triumphing the last time they met. Both teams have scored in three of the last four meetings between the two sides and with Leeds’ weak defence we’re backing BTTS again at the Keepmoat.
