The Bank Holiday weekend is upon us and there is a cracking fixture list of football, for you to enjoy, filled hopefully with plenty of goals.
We’ve got tips from the Premier League and the Championship, but also from across Europe where a number of major leagues get underway. The Spanish and German league campaigns start at the back end of this week and with Sky and BT covering plenty of matches from across the continent you can watch hours of top class footballing action.
Saturday 27th August 2016
- Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (4/6 with Bet365) – Tottenham haven’t been great going forwards yet this season, but they will likely get plenty of chances against a Liverpool side who look very sloppy at the back. That said, the Reds do have plenty of attacking talent at their disposal and they will be doing their utmost to show that last week’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley was nothing more than an anomaly.
- Hull City v Manchester United (21/20 with Coral) – Manchester United have started the season ominously and they will be very confident this weekend as they head to East Yorkshire. However, whilst we think United could score a couple, Hull City have been impressive this season and they can trouble United.
- Southampton v Sunderland (6/5 with Betfair) – Another game where BTTS looks well priced is Southampton’s clash with Sunderland. Both of the Black Cats’ matches this season have seen both sides score and with Jermain Defoe on the pitch they will feel they have enough to score. At the other end, things are a lot more shaky and Vito Manone is likely to be busy once again.
- Nottingham Forest v Leeds United (10/11 with Betfair) – 14 goals have been scored in Forest’s two home matches so far this season and with both of these sides preferring to play on the front foot, this could be a cracker. A few years ago, Forest won this fixture 7-3 and neutrals will be hoping that this one finishes in a similar scoreline.
Sunday 28th August 2016
- Manchester City v West Ham (10/11 with Coral) – Another match which has a recent history of providing big scorelines is City against West Ham and given the way Manchester City have started the season that looks like continuing. Pep Guardiola’s side are electric going forwards, but question marks still hang over their defence.
- Hoffenheim v RB Leipzig (13/20 with BetVictor) – Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner lead the line for a young, dynamic Leipzig side and the most hated club in Germany will be looking to win neutrals over with their fluent attacking play. However, we can’t see them keeping a clean sheet this weekend as they prepare to face a Hoffenheim side who have become a Bundesliga fixture in recent years.
- Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona (4/6 with Bet365) – We round off the weekend with Barcelona’s trip to Athletic Bilbao which will be shown on Sky Sports. It should be a good game as well and although Neymar will miss out due to his Olympic triumphs, there are still plenty of quality attacking options across these two sides.
