The Champions League returns to our screens this week, and we’re expecting plenty of exciting ties across Europe. Europe’s best have gotten their awkward early encounter out of the way, and now they’re focusing on getting through to the last 16 stage. Can the Premier League sides all cruise through, or will Liverpool’s dropped points on the opening day come back to haunt them? There are other big tests for the English sides this week.
Chelsea face a trip to Madrid to play at Atletico’s new ground, which is a crunch match in that group. Just which one of those two sides will be able to get all three points? Manchester United and Liverpool face trips to Moscow, while there are plenty of other big ties to keep an eye on. With some huge matches to come in Europe, we’re backing a few both teams to score bets during the midweek action. - Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid (4/9 with Betfair) – Dortmund head in to this clash on the back of a defeat to Spurs, so they need to get forward and get a result. We can see both sides going on the offensive here, and it’s difficult to see a clean sheet for either of them.
- Monaco v Porto (8/13 with Betfred) – Monaco’s attacking Champions League streak continued in their opener, they’ve now seen both teams score in six of their last seven in Europe. We expect that to continue here with Porto needing a result.
- Napoli v Feyenoord (21/20 with Coral) – Napoli have a breathtaking attack, but their defeat in the last round of fixtures shows that they’re defensively brittle. We expect their defence to continue to be shown up at this level, as we’re backing BTTS here.
- Spartak Moscow v Liverpool (4/5 with Bet365) – Liverpool conceded goals against Sevilla having given away next to no chances, and that’s been a running theme for them lately. Their opponents always seem to get one clear cut opportunity, and we see that happening in this difficult trip to Moscow.

- Atletico Madrid v Chelsea (evens with Coral) – Chelsea can send out a message if they go out on the attack here, while they can always get forward on the counter as they did at Tottenham. We see them taking a similar approach here, so the value is with BTTS in this one.
- CSKA Moscow v Manchester United (evens with Ladbrokes) – CSKA kicked off their campaign with a win in Lisbon, and that should give them confidence ahead of this clash. This is a tough trip for the Red Devils, and we think that trek will see them concede here.
- Sporting Lisbon v Barcelona (8/13 with Bet365) – Sporting Lisbon have been flying in Portugal, scoring at least twice in every game so far. They won’t be able to hold off Barca, but they can score here after hitting three in a trip to Greece in the last round of games.
