The World Cup was brilliant, but with 10 or more Premier League games virtually every week, not to mention the Championship and Europe’s other top leagues, domestic football is even better for those who like a bet or two.

- Leicester v Everton (4/5 with Bet365) – Everton have got a tough opening game away at Championship title winners Leicester and we think it could be a close yet entertaining affair. Leicester have been quiet in the transfer market, whilst Everton have primarily added their loan signings from last term onto their permanent staff. The Toffees have had a very average pre-season though and we think Leicester can get something from this one, with 1-1 or perhaps a 2-1 home win on the cards and both teams to score a very fine bet.
- QPR v Hull (evens with Coral) – both sides will fancy they can win this one and with both primarily concerned with survival this term, getting three points here would be a major boost. Hull will look to be more expansive this term whilst QPR should certainly have enough to stay up and given some firms are as short as 5/6 for BTTS we recommend grabbing Coral’s price now.
- West Ham v Tottenham (31/40 with BetVictor) – last season the Hammers did the double over their London rivals, winning 2-0 at home and 3-0 away and Spurs will looking to exact revenge here. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is under pressure to play more attractive football and, given Spurs always attack, backing both to score looks a solid option here.

- Liverpool v Southampton (evens with Ladbrokes) – Liverpool have lost Luis Suarez but have brought in some fine players and with Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and the deadly set pieces of Steven Gerrard they will still score plenty of goals. They managed an impressive 53 at home last season and whilst the Saints were one of only two sides to stop them scoring, we don’t think a repeat of that is likely. That said, the south coast side will be fired up for this one given they lost three of their best players – Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren – to the opposition and we think they will come out fighting. Liverpool managed just six clean sheets in 19 home league games last term and with Brendan Rodgers favouring attack betting on both teams to score here looks brilliant value.
- Newcastle v Manchester City (8/11 with Sky Bet) – Man City are second favourites for the title but they will have to improve on their performance in the Community Shield last Sunday when they lost 3-0 to Arsenal. That will have hit their confidence and whilst St James’ Park isn’t the fortress it once was – Newcastle lost eight times there last season – it can still be a very tough place to go, as Chelsea found when they lost 2-0 in November last year. City were poor at the back away from home last season and as such we think backing BTTS here is a fine bet, even at just 8/11.
