The European competitions return this week, and there’s a bumper offering of action to get things under way. Not only do we have four top class Champions League ties in the last 16, but there’s also a full round of Europa League games to look forward to. Will we get a goal-packed week to make up for the long wait between these big European nights? Given the matches we have to look forward to, we are expecting goals.
Benfica against Dortmund and PSG’s match with Barcelona should both provide us with plenty of goals, along with Bayern Munich’s meeting with Arsenal. Napoli’s trip to Real Madrid could prove to be the tie of the round, while there’s likely to be a lot going on in the Europa League too. With goals likely, we think this is the perfect time for a both teams to score accumulator. Ahead of the midweek European action, we’ve picked out our BTTS tips, which you can see below.
Tuesday 14th February 2017
- Benfica v Borussia Dortmund (4/6 with Ladbrokes) – If Benfica are going to cause a shock in this tie, they have to go for it in the home leg. Dortmund have looked shaky at times this season, but they’re strong going forward. That has us backing BTTS.
- PSG v Barcelona (3/5 with BetVictor) – This has become a regular Champions League fixture in recent years, and every trip Barca have made to Paris has finished with both teams finding the net. With both in great attacking form, we can see that streak continuing.
Wednesday 15th February 2017
- Bayern Munich v Arsenal (3/4 with Bet365) – Bayern Munich are looking as fearsome going forward as ever, but they’re lacking the discipline Pep Guardiola instilled at the back. We’re backing Arsenal to take advantage of that with a goal, but expect more struggles for the Gunners in Munich.
- Real Madrid v Napoli (4/7 with Betfred) – Napoli are looking like one of the best attacking sides in Europe right now, topping the scoring charts in Serie A. They should have little trouble continuing that form in Madrid this week.
Thursday 16th February 2017
- Borussia Monchengladbach v Fiorentina (8/11 with Sky Bet) – Fiorentina have been very exciting on their travels in Serie A this season, with 83% of their trips going over 2.5 goals. They score a lot on the road, while 67% of the goals they concede come away.
- Villarreal v Roma (5/6 with Coral) – Both of these sides will be turning to the Europa League after seeing their domestic ambitions fade, so we’re backing both to go all out for goals here.
- Gent v Tottenham (19/20 with Bet365) – It’s hard to see Tottenham naming a strong side for this trip, so we’re backing them to make changes at the back. That should result in chances for the hosts, so we’re backing BTTS once again here.
